Keep it long or cut it short?

Okay folks, I have a little question for you!!!
This is my hair!!
Whoooooaaaaa......It's long!!
Should I keep it long or cut it into a short shag?

Mind you, this is after I have done NOTHING to it. I didn't blow dry it or straighten it or curl it so it stands to look a lot better than this had I actually decided to fix it properly.
I don't know why I find it perfectly acceptable to look like a hot mess in front of all you lovely people but would try much harder to "do" something with myself if I were going out in public!
I guess I like ya:)
Also, I don't actually ever wear it down when I'm at home with these 2 babies hanging off me all day. This is how I wear it ALL THE TIME, in a bun. Which isn't that bad but pretty boring!

However, I find that whenever I am heavy I want to cut it short and then once I am thin I want it long again.
So, I think I'm feeling the urge to cut it because I'm a little chunky after these two babies but hopefully I will back to normal soon and then I will probably want it long again.

Decisions. Decisions.

SO what's your opinion on the hair situation?

Hanna

I love your long hair. I used to have long hair and then cut 14 inches off! Somedays I miss it for sure!

Your hair is gorgeous!! Keep it!

Keep your hair! I'm "chunky" too, but would rather lose the weight than cut my hair! I can't tell you how many people say they wish they still had long hair like mine, but cut it because of babies. I always wonder why people cut their hair with babies. Resist your temptation! Keep your glory.

First off, you look GREAT! YOu can tell you've lost weight and you look fabulous! :)

About your hair...leave it long! It's beautiful! I always do the same thing...want my hair short when I'm "chunk"(ier) ;)and then want it long when my face stars to thin out (The first place I lose weight is my face). I've just decided to keep it long and lose weight! :)

Keep up the awesome work! I know you must be so proud of yourself! :)

Oh - that's tough! I LOVE long hair, but I know that pull to cut it short! Mine was down to my waist and since having kids I've cut it - now it's just above my bra strap. If you're going to cut it short consider donating to locks of love - if you're unsure, just cut it in stages. A few inches at a time till you get it where you're comfortable with it!

You have gorgeous hair! Leave it long!

I say bring it up to at least your shoulders for a while, you can still wear it up or down, and gradually work you way shorter that way you are not so shocked by loosing all the hair at one time.

It's gorgeous long, but if you're thinking about it the risk might be worth it. I miss long hair every once and a while, but with my cut I don't have to do a thing with it. Decisions, decisions. If you want a change you can always go and get it dyed, but that is stressful on the hair.

I too have the same issue! i just grew my hair out and I'm tossing and turning over what to do...long or short!

I love with the long I can just pull it up (Totally have the messy bun thing going on right now) but love that I look mroe "put together" with the short hair.

If you cut your hair consider donating to Pantene Beautiful Lenghts (similar to locks of love but it doesn't have to be as long) only requires it to be 8inches from the elastic to bottom of your hair! You can check it out at: http://www.pantene.com/en-US/beautiful-lengths-cause/Pages/hair-donation-requirements.aspx

I love it both ways and I agree with all the other comments...YOU LOOK GREAT!

I say whatever is easiest with the 2 babies! Incidentally, I am opposite you, long when I am at my heaviest, short when I lose a few. I don't mind short when I have less chins to showcase!

Your hair looks beautiful, but I love short hair! Plus, I always feel like it puts a little pep in my step when I get a trim. Maybe go for something in the middle...a cute medium length style?

Candice said...

Your hair is beautiful, but I vote shorter. Maybe just past your shoulders with some layers. I think it would look really stylish. :)

Katie said...

I like both long and short, but I could totally see you with a barely above the shoulder bob with those bangs!! It would looks so cute!

PoetessWug said...

I say leave it alone! If you cut it short....there might be voices! (In your head...YOU saying WHY?!!) LOL Now, with it long, you can wear it up or wear it down....and the rejoices at the choices!! ^_^

I say keep it long. You might regret it after it is cut and it will take a long time to get it that long again. Also, a lot of the time short hair can make your face look rounder than long.

I think your hair is gorgeous, but I think it would be super cute a few inches shorter maybe with layers also. However... I have two kids, and I have had shorter hair and longer hair, and no matter what length, it still ends up on the top of my head in a bun or pony. :0

I love your hair. It is beautiful. But...it will grow again. So if you do cut it you won't be without it for all that long. Mine is long. I have to wear it braided or it gets into things. Just think about getting your hair in chicken poo...not good!

Candice said...

you look lovely regardless :) I'd say cut it, but still keep the length about 10cm below your collarbones. Then you still get flexibility, but have enough cut off so it feels like a change

stephanie said...

i say keep it long! i love long hair and your is hawt! but you have to do whatever you feel best about! i'm sure you would look lovely with a short look too!

I've always had thick, heavy hair that looks lovely when I grow it long. However! Cutting 9in off (shoulder length) felt wonderful; and incredibly liberating! I'm debating going a little further and trying a Victoria Beckham bob over the summer. For the record: I think you'd look adorable if you took the length up to your shoulders and added some chunky layers!

Thought: have you considered getting a haircut with Locks of Love? I did it the last time; and I rationalized that hey, my hair will eventually grow back. If I don't like it short ... it's okay. Not the end of the world ... but some folks don't even HAVE hair at the moment; and I'd be more than happy to give them mine.

Kirsten said...

Your long hair is lovely, but it can't hurt to try out a new style. Get it cut and see how you like it. If you prefer yourself with longer hair, it'll grow back- I promise!

Lindsay said...

Your hair is GORGEOUS!! I'd go for it though... :) :)

You have absolutely gorgeous hair and if I could grow hair that long I would be in heaven. With that being said, you also look amazing with your hair pulled up which is a good sign that short hair would look good on you! I think with the hair up it accentuates more of your facial features which is good! Good luck with your decision. It looks like you have been growing it for a long time so I knwo the decisions doesn't come lightly!

Oh! Do it! Shorter hair is much easier to style and manage. Besides, if you don't like it, it will grow back!

CrazyMomma said...

1) it's just hair, it will grow back
2) a good cut always makes a girl feel better
3) if you don't want to loose much length don't just get a great shape cut into longer layers :)

i say do it!! cut it all to shoulder length (just long enough for little finger to twirl but not long enough for it to get in the way while nursing/cooking/etc) with some nice chunky style in it!! my hair was just about your length about 6 months ago and i chopped it all above my chin (way drastic) but it's awesome and i am loving letting it grown out now and seeing where my hair journey ends :) it IS just hair and it WILL grow back!! also if you cut it, donate it to like locks of love :) you will feel better, look AWESOME (not that you don't already) and you are doing a good thing by donating it :)

Keep it! Maybe a trim so you can kick the urge to cut it! It's gorgeous! Plus... I know you will loose the weight you want to! It took me forever but I finally lost all 40 lbs. You can do it!!!

I think you and your locks are beautiful. I would love to have thicker hair. I have always had fine blond hair. I am a new follower. Just wanted to introduce myself a bit. I acutally lost a 100 pounds and have kept if off even after a second baby. I actually lost the weight by walking everyday and reducing sodium in my diet. I also drink a lot of calorie free things like green tea for example. I still work out everyday, even if it is just a 30 minute walk. Well if you ever need a friend to talk to about weight issues I coudld help, drop me a note at, I have had my share of struggles with it, you can find me at my blog

As for your hair, If you like to pull it up I would keep it long enough so that you can still do so, maybe a layered look but still down to your shoulders at least. Nice to meet you.

Hi Hanna ~ You look wonderful, girl, and your hair is really thick and gorgeous. I lost about 20 pounds 18 months ago and had no problems cutting my hair off!! It's not quite pixie, but it is short. I think with a thinner face I can get away with shorter hair ~~ that's just me, though! If you like long hair, I would cut it to shoulder length with maybe long layers. You can still wear it up if you want or leave it down depending on your mood! After my daughter was born, I found myself always wearing my hair pulled back. The baby was always grabbing it when I wore it down. The shorter it was the easier it was to take care of especially when you're trying to get in those much anticipate showers!! Well, good luck! I'm sure that whatever you decide you are going to be happy with it ~~ that's just the kind of person that you are!! XO :)

I think you look great with your hair up so I say cut it to your shoulder with a really fun shaggy look and then you can still tie it up. You'll look so fresh and chic!

My daughter is a recently graduated from Aveda Institute - My hair was long. But, all the teachers there said... if you put it up the majority of the time then cut it. Well, I did just that and I missed being able to put it in a pony or thread it through the baseball caps. I would say bring it up to shoulder-length to start ---- that way it is shorter but also long enough to do others things with.

I think it's beautiful the way it is and it looks great in a bun.

Your hair is so gorgeous...I would personally donate 10" to Locks for Love or something of the sort which will give you a new look, but I don't think it will take off so much that it can't grow back quickly. It will still be long enough that you can put it up, out of your kiddos reach.

Jenni @ Story of My Life said...

You are so darn pretty Hanna!! I think your hair would look lovely cut to just below shoulder length, with a little bit of layers. Maybe even go wild and add some blonde highlights?! That's my vote. I can picture it now, and it looks gooood!! :D

I go through this every year, i let my hair grown and then chop it all off. If you do chop it, consider donating it to locks of love (or some other foundation for wigs for cancer patients, I did it and its great). I believe the minimum is 8 inches, which I'm sure you have! Maybe if you're on the fence, cut a few inches off for starters, lighten it up for the summer!

MommaAmma said...

I always have opinions! My suggestion would be to put it in a pony or up in some way that you enjoy then cut off all the excess you don't need. That way it's long and pretty but you can put it up to show off that beautiful face.

thetwistedruffle said...

i love you hair pulled back in that bun! so, maybe if you cut it, just leave it long enough to pull back? i have the same feelings as you, i'll cut it and then wish it were long, and when it's long, i'm thinking about cutting it...

B:Mod Designs said...

i'm in the same situation, wanting to cut it short because I always have it up anyway...you have pretty hair but i say if you feel like chopping it off, do it! it will grow back in no time...its always nice to change things up once and a while!

adrienzgirl said...

I keep mine long enough to pull up. Babies love to pull hair. With two little ones you need to keep it long enough to pull back for sure!

Tiffany said...

Your hair is so pretty! I'm a fan of the long hair. Like you I keep mine pulled up 98% of the time and keep getting this urge to just cut it off. But I did that a few years ago and hated it, it is just not getting back to wear I like it.

Burke & Chelle said...

Most definitely leave it long! Your hair is gorgeous and you look great! I cut my hair and I regretted it! You can do so much with long hair! Keep it :)

Long hair is beautiful and yours is no exception but I think a shag cut would be awesome!!
Give it a go...it will always grow out if you don't like it!!

Thanks for visiting my blog-returning the visit! I say cut it short (donate to locks of love). I finally cut mine in December and absolutely love it! (it is still almost shoulder length-I got the short in back long in front cut and LOVE LOVe LOVE it-just wish I did it sooner). Good Luck!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm following you now! I think you should cut several inches and do long layers. It will still be long but it will have style for when you go out and want to wear it down. It will be easier to care for w/ 2 young kids. And you can't donate it to Locks of Love and help someone who needs a wig!!!! :)

mienkintoshfairie said...

Your hair is beautiful! You can cut it and donate it to locks of love. My friend did it, her hair was at her waist. A classmate of mine had red hair, and she did it as well. Their hair grew back fast. I would say to go that route for ease and care, (children). Or you can try a new look ^_^

The Corner Girl said...

You need long-medium length hair with a LOT of layering. It would be much simpler to take care of and would still fit into a bun/ponytail. I think you may want to reconsider buns and just wear ponytails. I think they would look younger on you. :)
My hair is exactly the same length as yours, if not a little longer! Definitely don't chop it all off, but I totally think you would rock a layered cut!
