Guest Post. Meet Danielle From Happily Ever AFter

Classy Christmas Crafts on the Cheap”

Hi there!! I’m Danielle! It’s nice to meet ya.
This is my handsome hubby, Jonathan….
and we are visiting today from Happily Ever After!
We are newlyweds, new homeowners, and living on a schoolteacher & painter’s salary. We have lots of people to buy for each Christmas (I come from a huge family & we exchange with several of our friends) so that can REALLY add up & do some damage to our budget!! Thankfully Pinterest (let me know if you need an invite & I can send you one- but beware, the Pinterest world is quite addicting!) has totally inspired me to get creative this year and MAKE most of our gifts.
Big Jon set up a “crafting station” for us in the basement and he even helps me (but don’t tell him I told you that!) with our creations. {Don’t worry, I let him do the “manly stuff” like cutting wire and distressing paint.}  We have had lots of laughs making all these goodies together, and I think it makes it extra special that they our gifts have a homemade, personalized touch. It also definitely helps out on our newlywed budget!!
We have become regulars at all the local craft stores, and always use the 40% off coupons (they come out every week and they will accept them off your phone)& teacher discount.  I thought other people might benefit from some of the super cute, cheap ideas we’ve brought to life & want to get busy recreating them, so I’ve been itching to share!! I can’t on my own blog, though, because everyone we are giving these gifts to reads my blog! Ha!  Check out some of our gift ideas:
Earring Holders:
(old frames from GoodWill, chicken wire from Home Depot, burlap from JoAnn’s, spray paint from Hobby Lobby)
earring holders 001earring holders 002earring holders 003earring holders 004earring holders 005
Personalized Plates:
plain plates & plate stands from Wal-Mart, flower sticker & letters from Michael’s, dry erase marker from Dollar Store
Mart 008Mart 009
Personalized Ornaments:
clear ornaments, rhinestone stickers, scrapbook paper, beads/pearls, ribbon all from Hobby Lobby
Mart 010Mart 011Mart 012Mart 013
Family Collage:
8x10 frames from Wal-Mart, used a site called Wordle to create the collage (can choose words, colors, and fonts), and printed for free on our color printer!
We also made family calendars using Snapfish & Shutterfly that have tons of family photos and all important family dates (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.).  This is always SUCH a huge hit! I add fun family quotes and silly captions too.  This is more time consuming because I had to stalk pictures off everyone’s Facebook pages, but the sites are user friendly and the calendars turned out great!
Thanks for taking the time to read all about our Christmas crafting. Hope you found some fun ideas.
Feel free to swing by Happily Ever After some time and say hey!! And you can shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions @!
MeRRy ChRiStMas!!!!

A BIG HUIGE thank you to Danielle today for sharing her CHristmas gifts on a budget!!!! I know we can all use the inspirtion this year!!!!!

I am a nurse in a critical care unit. I see people die all the time. I am very comfortable around death. That being said, when it is your own family member it becomes much more difficult.
My father passed away at midnight on December 6th.
I loved him. I will miss him. He was very sick for a very long time and I know now he is in a better place so I feel relieved in many ways.
I lost my brother 4 years ago at just 33 years old . That was not as easy. In fact I felt like my heart will have a huge piece missing that will never return. Life goes on. It just does. It must!
This is a poem by George Bernard Shaw that really speaks to me about death and how I want to view my own death when the time comes.
I want to be thoroughly used up when I die.
For the harder I work, The more I live.
I rejoice in life for it's own sake.
Life is no "brief candle" to me.
It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got to hold for a moment,
and I will make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.
~George Bernard Shaw
I cannot thank you all enough for your love and support and prayers through this difficult time. I truly treasure each and every one of you and sometimes I don't know how I would make it through without my blog. My gratitude is immeasurable. THANK YOU! and God bless you!

Braided Sausage Calzone and LINKY parry

Ingredients for Pizza dough for Calzone: NOTE: you may use store bought dough or you may use a simpler pizza dough recipe if you have one. I just prefer this one but it does require preparation the night before.

2 1/4 cups bread flour

1 1/4teaspoons salt

1/2teaspoon instant yeast

1/8 cup olive oil

1 cup water (ice cold)

1/2  tablespoon sugar

1. Mix the flour, salt and yeast in a large bowl.

2. Add the oil, water and sugar and mix until it forms a sticky ball of dough.

3. Knead on a clean surface for 5-7 minutes adding flour if it is too wet or water if it is too dry.
4. Place the dough ball on a pan, spray it  with oil and cover with plastic.

6. Place the dough in the fridge and let it rest over night or up to three days.
7. Flour (or oil) your hands and lay the dough across your knuckles. Lightly bounce the dough on your knuckles, turning it and stretching it until it reaches the size that you want. Try to make a bug rectangle shape.

9. Place the dough on a baking pan  that is lightly sprayed with cooking oil
10. cut diagonal slits on either sides and fill with calzone filling
Brush with garlic butter and bake for 45 minuets at 350 degrees.

Ingredient's for Basic Marinara Sauce:
(Note: you may also use a nice store bought sauce to simplify even more.)
2 cans whole peeled tomatoes
1 carrot, finely shredded
1/4 cup olive oil
1 onion finely diced
4 cloves of garlic, minced
3 tablespoons fresh thyme minced
salt and pepper to taste

Directions for Marinara Sauce:
heat olive oil in saucepan over medium/medium high heat, add onion and saute for 10 minuets until a little soft. Than add the garlic, shredded carrot and thyme. Stir and let that cook and marry with the onion for another 10-15 minuets. Now open your canned tomatoes and pour the excess fluid into the pot right away. Now get each tomato from the can give it a rough chop, throwing them in the pot as you go until all 2 cans are in and all the juices from the tomatoes are in too. Now salt and pepper to taste. about 2 teaspoons salt and many grinds of pepper. Let this simmer on low for 30-40 minuets. FINISHED. set aside.

Ingredients for Calzone fillling:
3 tablespoons olive oil
4 links hot Italian sausage
1 green bell pepper
1 onion
1 large package os baby Bella mushrooms
salt and pepper to taste
1.5 cups shredded mozzarella and 1/4 cup Parmesan. optional!

Directions for calzone Filling:
In a medium saucepan place Olive oil, onion and mushroom. Saute for 25 minuets or until translucent and soft. Now add bell pepper and saute another 8 minuets. Season with salt and pepper. set aside
In a separate saucepan, saute the 4 links of Italian sausage on medium high until your skins area ll browned, remove and set aside to cool. If they are not completely cooked on the inside it's ok because we are going to bake them as well.
Once the sausage is cool enough to handle slice into 1/2 inch circles, mix with the onion, mushroom, pepper mix and set aside.

Once your pizza dough is ready and rolled out, fill the center with the calzone filling. You may or may not top with shredded mozzarella and Parmesan  cheese, but this totally not necessary, It comes out Delicious either way!

Brush with butter and garlic. Bake for 45 minuets at 350 degrees and serve hot with Marinara!

Meet Kara and her Holiday Necklace Tutorial

Hi everyone! I’m Kara from Happy Go Lucky and I’m thrilled to be Hanna’s guest today.  She is fabulous... but I'm sure you already know that!
Today we are going to make this darling necklace just in time for the holidays!
All you need are two things:  suede lace and wooden beads.  I was originally going to paint wooden beads red but then I came across this red beaded garland in the Christmas section of Michael's.
Cut two pieces of string around 42 inches. Take your first string and tie a single knot closest to the center as you can get it.  Slide your first bead onto the string and tie a knot right after it.
Add another bead to one side and tie another knot. Then add a bead to the other side of the first knot.
Continue to alternate sides until you’ve added 11 beads.  Then repeat on the second string but this time add 13 beads.
Now take one bead and thread both pieces of string though that one bead.  Tie a knot.
Repeat on the other side.  Trim the ends of the string so they are even.  Tie a knot and put on your fabulous new necklace.  My finished necklace is around 36 inches because I wanted something long.  If you want something shorter, just cut your string around 6 inches longer than you want your finished necklace to be.

It really can't get any easier than this!  In less than 20 minutes and for around $6 you have a fabulous new necklace with plenty of supplies left over to make a few for gifts.  I hope you have fun making your own beaded necklace.

I would love for you to come visit Happy Go Lucky and say "Hi!" I would also be thrilled to see any necklaces you make inspired by this tutorial.

Happy Go Lucky

Thank you Hanna for having me!!  I'm honored to be your guest today.
