Baby.....12 Weeks

Well...................We've made it to the first trimester mark ALREADY! 

Wow.........Look at me I managed to get out of bed and I even cut my own hair because that's just how much I care! Ha...Ha......

Sorry, but seriously, I wouldn't dream to pay someone $100 bucks to lop off 2 inches plus I'm a beauty school drop out so no excuses! 

How far along? 12 weeks

Baby’s Size: about the size of an egg

Weight Gain: 7.5 whopping pounds!!!!!! And I am VERY UPSET!!!!!! The doc assured me that because I was so thin when I got pregnant a lot of times the padding comes on right up front but I;m not buying that, I've been huge before. No thanks. So starting right now we will be leaning much heavier on the protein rather than carbohydrate side.

Stretchmarks: just a million old ones

Maternity Clothes: not yet, thank God

Names: If it's a boy we will name him after my bother, if it's a girl we don;t have a single clue

Gender:This will remain a surprise baby

Movement: Honestly I have already felt it move, it's my 3rd baby, it;s not that weird

Sleep: I wasn't sleeping for about 6 weeks, now I am doing a little better with the anti-nausea meds.

Symptoms: extreme grouchiness, moodiness, nausea, vomiting

Food Aversions: pretty much everything (yet I still manage to gain 7 pounds. damn it)

Food Cravings: none

Best Moments this week: I got to see and hear the baby's heart beat for the first time this week.

What I miss: not being a psychopath, my husband

What I am Looking forward to: not being a psychopath

Milestones: got in a 9 mile long run this week with no pain whatsoever!!

Now I'm ready for a vacation. I had to miss out on work(and running) for almost 2 straight weeks because of nausea and vomiting. I am finally feeling a Little better so now I'm ready to do something nice. Honestly it was hard being home so sick with 2 screaming toddlers glued to my knees. I don't have a lot of Patience right now.

I guess next week is my 10 K and the week after is my 5 K so that should keep me entertained  and excited I guess!!!!

ZENSAHHHHHHHH..........R*U*N

As you all know, I have a terrible addiction to compression gear....mainly socks. 
Anyhow I have always been curious and have been dying to try some Zensah compression apparel. So I decided to give them a shout and they were super nice and responsive and whipped me over a pair of adorable pink and black argyle compression socks over in 2 days. FAST I tell you!

Well, you all know I'm 12 weeks pregnant now and am recovering from an injury but I knew this week I would be getting back up to speed so I decided to test out my new Zensah's on a 9 mile sunrise run. 

It was glorious and so were the socks. Honestly, I would say they are my MOST padded compression socks I own. They are very thick and plush, definitely a nice foot cushion. I really liked the amount of compression too. Sometimes I have a hard time getting it just right. I thought these were snug but not too tight.

I wore them for the whole 9 miles and then stretched and recovered in them for about 20 minutes after as well. I couldn't be happier. 

Honestly, well done Zensah. You have a happy new fan here. In fact I may have to order a pair of your sleeves ASAP!!

I wanted to show a photo of the inside of the socks because they are SO PLUSH!!!! These socks are just super cozy. I'll be wearing these ALL fall and Winter for sure!!!!!!!

Take Your Power Back

Unfortunately, I have been virtually immobile according to me. I managed to run 20 miles this week but they weren't fun or fast or happy. I was lucky I had the strength to force them out and then half died when I got home.
This morning Sickness is seriously whooping my behind. It is taking ALL MY STRENGTH to get anything done.  But I'm tough, I'm not a quitter, I just get up and try anyway.

So I got very lucky and found a pair of Asics trail shoes on SUPER SALE plus I happened to have a gift card to that particular online shoe shop so guess what???
They arrive today and they are pink and beautiful and made for over pronators just like me and I want to RUN.........................ALL OVER THE TRAILS...........................RUN.
So I am going to bed with a little prayer in my heart, a zofran in my belly, and hope that I will feel better at least one good day this week so I can try out those bad boys!!!
And I promise I will get some good trail running pics too!!!!! That's a promise!

My Pregnancy Strength Training Program

Okay I punched my excuses in the face at 3am when I was awake with insomnia last night eating Greek yogurt and decided to try this little routine EVERY OTHER DAY. 
Starting Today!  (Uhhhhh, that is if I can stop feeling nauseated enough for 10 minutes to do it:(
Plank 90 seconds (either elbow or full extension) 60 Triceps lifts with 10 pound medicine ball (20 reps X 3) 60 Bicep curls with 10 pounds free weight (20 reps X3)                           80 girly push ups  ( I figure I'm pregnant I'm allowed to wimp out a little, reps of 20 or 40) 75 squats (40 set) (20 set) (15 set)  80 Donkey Kick leg lifts for the booty  (40 each side) I've decided to TRY, key word, TRY to have my arms and quads stronger at the end of the pregnancy then they are now. 
This is how I operate. If I don't have goals, I won't accomplish anything. So here's to some good goal setting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to stay home from work all week long because I was so sick. 

Finally after 6 days I managed to get out of my house and take the kids out.

My Fall Racing Schedule!!!!!

SOOOOOOO........................I'm super excited on September 3rd I will participating in this 10K..................looks like mostly hills but a really small race and It's right down the street from my house!!!!!  YAY!!!!!! Now I just have to decided what skirt to wear. 

   This fun hot chocolate series race I think is 2 weeks later and an hour away. This one I am running with my hubby and a musician friend of ours so we're just going to do the 5K but should be really FUN!!!!!! Lot's of chocolate at the finish line!! 

Can't go wrong!!!!

AND .......................finally I am hoping I am feeling well enough at 21 weeks to run this half marathon. I was originally going to run the full and try to qualify for Boston but obviously that was before I got pregnant! SO I decided to downgrade to the half and go nice and slow!!!! 

This is a fast, flat course so I shouldn't have any troubles as long as my baby isn't Gigantic by then and pounding on my pelvis. So, we;ll see. If I don't think I can handle the half I'll do the 10 K!!!!!! 

So hurray for racing!!!!! 

Nothing gets me more excited!!!!! Honestly, I think it's one of the reasons I like running so much. The running community is out in full force and it;s so inspiring!!!!

First Pregnancy Belt Run

This was my first attempt running with the pregnancy support belt. It was okay but honestly I am right at that in between phase where my stomach is sticking out a little but not enough for this thing to stay put under it.

Well, I tried it anyway. I did a treadmill run at the gym at 7 PM and was exhausted. 

I AM A MORNING RUNNER!!!!! 

If I don't run before 8 am forget about it. It's not happening!!! Not to mention I hate the treadmill!!!!

So, I seriously have about 10 pairs of compression socks but not one single pair of sleeves. 

I am NOT a picky sock person so I have no complaints about the socks but I have always wanted to try a pair of sleeves.

I ran 4 miles and wasn't feeling too hot. 

I think I'll take a few days off and work on my strength training plan. I have been majorly and I mean majorly slacking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 

SOOOOOOOOOO..........................I will be back with my daily strength training plan including squats, planks, push ups and crunches if I can still do them without smashing the baby!

BEST recipe I've found in a LONG time

I know, I know I haven't been cooking anything in like a year but I started reading up on Chia Seeds and found out I NEED THEM IN MY LIFE!!!!!!! 
One of my readers was gracious enough to supply with an AWESOME recipe for NO COOK chia seed oatmeal and let me tell you it is AWESOME!!!!!! 
I'm serious. I am planning to eat this every single morning for breakfast. I ate it this morning and I've been full for 5 hours! 
SO here's what I did. This recipe can be used very loosely and will still come out great so modify however you want!!!!! 
#1 put 1 cup of real oats into a glass jar. (not quick oats)

#2 Put 1 cups of  soy milk, almond milk or whatever  milk you drink into the jar with the oats

#3 Put a heaping tablespoon of Chia seeds in. You can buy them at any health food store.

#4 The fun part. Add fresh fruit. I used peach and raspberry here but I also used blueberry and strawberry on another batch.

#5 I use 1 teaspoon or tablespoon of honey because I'm a pregnant wimp and want a little sweetness but this can be avoided if you don't want that extra sugar.

That's it. Stir together, screw on top and leave in fridge overnight. In the morning I microwaved mine 2 minutes and added a little more soy milk to loosen it up. IT WAS DIVINE I TELL YOU.

I might just develop a serious addiction to this stuff!!!!!!!!!! 

Oh and by the way here's the REAL recipe if you want better instructions and more ideas for flavors. She chose to use Greek yogurt in hers which I did not care for.

Chia seeds:

• have more Omega 3 fatty acids than flax seed (important for heart health)
• are the richest non-marine whole food source of Omega-3 (better than salmon)
• absorb 10 times their weight in water and transform into a gel-like substance--great for athletes for maintaining hydration and helps with weight loss by making you feel full longer
• are as high in protein as quinoa
• are loaded with calcium, potassium, Vitamin B, and anti-oxidants
• help balance blood sugar via the gelling action of the seed and it’s unique combination of soluble and insoluble fiber that slow down your body’s conversion of starches into sugars 
• have a neutral taste so they will take on the other flavors in a recipe
• can be eaten whole (unlike flax seed); they don't have to be ground before adding them to food in order to digest them and benefit from their nutrients
• have a two year shelf life, stored at room temperature (flax seeds quickly become rancid and loose their nutritional value)

Seriously, PLEASE try this recipe. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed and it takes 5 minutes and you don;t have to cook anything!!!!!!!!!!

Pregnancy Woes

Well, every since day one I have had horrible on and off morning sickness starting at 1 pm and going to 1 am and everywhere in between. 
It seems like I can go 2 weeks with no sickness at all and then 2 weeks and be sick as a dog everyday.
UGH!!! It's horrible. 

I think I'm just a wimp becasue I never had a single problem with either of my other pregnancies. I worked in the ICU in New York City where I had to walk 20 blocks in the snow and sleet and take 2 trains to get to work until I was 9 months pregnant and then worked a 13 or 14 hour shift on my feet and I managed fine. So naturally I figured this would be a breeze.  NOT!!!!! 
My only concern is work. I haven't been to work all week!!!!  As you all know I am the primary bread winner. Well, not only is it extreamly unprofessional to call in sick every week but I might loose my job and where is the money going to come from ? How am I going to feed my children and pay my mortgage? Let's not think about it now, shall we?



I also have another concern.  MY WEIGHT!!!!! 

I had a HUNCH this was going to be an issue.  Yes I have managed to workout and run the entire first trimester but my body has a slow metabolism and I have hypothyroid which medication does nothing for. I have already gained 6 pounds and I'm only 10 weeks. That means it will probably be 8 pounds by week 12. The max your supposed to gain is 5 pounds the first trimester.
AWWWWWWWW!!!!!

NOT GOOD PEOPLE!!!!!!! I still have more than 2 trimesters to go.
This week I  Ran 5.38 miles on Sunday Walked 2 Mile on Monday Ran 3.41 miles on Tuesday  Ran 6 miles on Wednesday and  Ran 2 miles on Thursday
No strength training whatsoever! BOOO for me!

BUT...............I have not been motivated at all to lift weights, go to spinning, do push ups or squats. However I have been stretching which is new for me. Usually it's like pulling teeth to get me to stretch.
Anyway, as soon as I start to eat bread or sugar or carbs I start gaining weight like crazy.
I REALLY don't want to go on a "diet" when I'm pregnant but I might have to. I am determined not to get HUGE like I was before. In fact, I am okay with 25-30 pounds but that's my limit. I refuse to have that baby come out and have me feeling like a beached whale.  I want to get back to running PRONTO and we all know I can;t do that 50 pounds overweight!!!!!
Trust me when you've weighed 245 pounds (YES 245 POUNDS) before and been a size 22 and then weighed 127 pounds and been a size 4,    You  KNOW THE DIFFERENCE and it's H*U*G*E!!!!!!
I simply won't do it!!!!!!!!!!  That being said, it's HARD, really hard to be pregnant and have to be on a restricted diet. Your natural instinct is to eat everything under the sun. My sweet tooth is raging and it just doesn't feel natural to not be able to eat what I want. Yes, I've been sick as a dog but when I do eat it seems to just stick to my ribs like crazy!!!!
I have my work cut out for me. 

You better bet I went and bought a HUGE thing of Chia Seeds. I didn't know that much about them but check this out.
